Niko Kovač will remain an FC Salzburg player until 30 June 2009 after signing a new one-year contract with the Austrian Bundesliga side. The 36-year-old appeared 25 times as Salzburg finished in second place behind SK Rapid Wien this season.
"I always said I would gladly play another year at Salzburg," said the Croatia defender. "I cannot leave the club after only finishing as runners-up."
